To Whom It May Concern-

Lois Kagan Mingus and Jerry Goralnick have asked me to write a letter of recommendation for them, after they presented a terrific Living Theater workshop here at The Boston Conservatory. I do so gladly.

They were part of our Off-Off Broadway retrospective and celebration in November. Their imaginative exercises and techniques were very succinct and captivating. The students were very attentive to the process and quite impressed with the physical agility of the presenters themselves, as they demonstrated and then participated in the process with the students.

In addition, Jerry gave the students a historical context of the creation and the ongoing work of the Living Theatre. It was a fascinating look into the 60s, when provocative, experimental theatre challenged audiences to delve into the social and political issues of the day.

The students learned a lot that day, not only about their bodies and emotional response to movement with an actor’s intent. They also learned about an artist’s responsibility to address problems in the world and to think beyond themselves as artist citizens in a global struggle against injustice and discrimination.

We look forward to another time when we can invite Lois and Jerry back for a longer residency. Please feel free to contact me if you need further detail regarding these remarkable teachers of the Living Theatre.

Sincerely,
